Starting where you are

To create bold works of literature, we begin with your fictional work in progress (novel excerpt or short story) as our focus. We discuss your intent, point and purpose, and the obstacles on your journey to arriving where you want the piece to go.

A complete understanding of what makes a piece of fiction work will help you strengthen your own work. So, one aspect of what we do is analyze narrative craft in works from published authors. Also, we discuss your work and the work of other workshop participants.

Going Deeper into your Fiction

The goal of the workshop is to deepen your knowledge, understanding, and application of the elements of fiction in your own writing. To attain that goal, we zero in on the finer points in workshop participants fiction in areas such as: sophisticated character development, the intricacies of plot design, overt and covert figurative Language use, discernment and threaded support of themes, choice and impact in narrator voice, and setting as character and metaphor.

Powerful Writing tips & advice

Throughout the workshop, I offer important tips and suggestions for forming healthy writing habits so you can begin to successfully integrate what you’ve learned.

Tips and suggestion are on subjects such as overcoming writer’s block, reading like a writer, strengthening and supporting your writing life, and building writing community.
